Possible Host for BeTwittered as an Open Source Project. 14

Anyone have any input on the reputation of SocialText? Looks good, and they may be willing to host BeTwittered code as open source. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

    Open Source, woo!

    Can’t say I’ve heard of SocialText though. If it’s open source why does it need their hosting?

    Hi Matthew,

    It’s not so much about the hosting. It’s really the “stewardship” that I think is nice. Open source hosting is probably easy, but I think that someone spending the time to work with others and maintain updates is a nice bonus. I just wouldn’t have the time to do it well, and they have a background in this sort of thing.

    Hi Robert,

    So the idea is you open source the code and get SocialText to maintain it? I’ll see what I can find in my community about SocialText.

    hi Robert, thanks for the betwittered app

    now I have 2 questions:

    1) will you really open the source? you must use github or bazaar

    2) about the AnyScreen (by @mattapperson) his app is not supporting identica, and really there are a lot of gadgets in igoogle for twitter but yours was the best and unique for identica(statusnet), so please think about the floss community

    @demuxer

    The identi.ca (status.net) gadget still works. At least, I’m still using it. Would be nice to see that open sourced too though.

    @robert
    Sorry, I can’t seem to find any info in my community on SocialText.

    What do you not like? Is it from bad experience? My hopes were that someone might host a copy (many Chinese users would have appreciated that) and improve it. Socialtext seems not to have made any public use of it, but I’m starting to fiddle about with Betwittered again. I’m hoping that once I get a new version of it running well, I may be able to get it up in public again. Last weekend I finished converting it to use twitters newer authentication (OAUTH).

    If it is an igoogle add on, then wouldn’t http://code.google.com/projecthosting/
    be worth considering?

    Make it available under whatever license you wish, but is your are specifically linking in with identi.ca,
    then you might follow their lead and consider an open source license also.

    Hi,
    is the project got opened?

    could you please give me some feedback on the status of this?
    im interested in use the code for statusnet integrations, i have once asked if you would be interested in make a custom one, but got no response. (open sourced with a ok license would solve the issue, though :) )

    best regards and congrats for you awesome app.

    ps: i looked over socialtext and doesnt seems to be a community host site. imho, if betwittered gone be open source, sourceforge,googlecodehost,github, and even berlios seems to be best alternatives.
    ofc, socialtext could become a sponsor/maintener of the project, but it would be an open project and, again, imho, would be a great add-on for the (federated) statusnet ecosystem.
    do you have any license in mind allready?

    best regards,

    Hi (again) robert,
    pinpointed our issue is at authentication/session management, so, in our specific case, if you could explain what you do could solve our struggle.

    best regards,

    Well the status.net open source has changed now, it’s not an “open” source now, you need a special email invite.

    hi ppc,
    the open source package is still there.
